Recently, the 2020 Annual Conference of the China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association, the Annual Meeting of the Food Machinery Branch of the Chinese Society of Food Science and Technology, and the 9th Asian Food Equipment Forum 2020 were held concurrently in Shanghai. With the theme "Dual Circulation Integration, Empowering the Future," Chu Yufeng, President of the China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association and Chairman of the Food Machinery Branch of the Chinese Society of Food Science and Technology, remarked: "From January to September this year, China's food and packaging machinery industry experienced negative revenue growth for the first time, dropping by -3.09%. However, profits actually grew at a relatively robust pace—up 8.06%—which is no easy feat. This challenging period has clearly highlighted the urgent need to build a fully integrated industrial chain, establish a mature supply network, and accelerate the automation and intelligentization of production processes."
Chu Yufeng noted that China's food and packaging machinery industry has maintained steady economic performance, with ongoing progress in transformation and upgrading. In 2019, the 1,048 large-scale food and packaging machinery enterprises across the country achieved main business revenues of 117.888 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year growth of 2.63%. Meanwhile, profits reached 10.018 billion yuan, up 2.22% from the previous year, resulting in an industry profit margin of 8.41%—a significant improvement of 1.34 percentage points compared to 7.07% in 2018. These figures highlight the industry's remarkable gains amid ongoing structural adjustments. In terms of international trade, China's food and packaging machinery sector recorded total import and export value of 11.061 billion U.S. dollars in 2019, marking a 7.49% increase over the previous year. Specifically, exports amounted to 6.837 billion U.S. dollars, growing by 11.01%, while imports stood at 4.224 billion U.S. dollars, up 2.25%. Overall, China's food and packaging machinery industry continues to enjoy strong momentum in its export market.
